A New York advice columnist who made bizarre accusations of rape against President Donald Trump, and is now suing him for defamation, could end up being sued herself.
Trump is asking a federal court in Manhattan for permission to file a counterclaim against E. Jean Carroll, who claims he raped her in a department store in the 1990s.
She is suing Trump for defamation after he alleged she made up the story to bring more attention to herself while promoting a book.
Trump’s counterclaim “alleges a violation of New York’s Anti Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation statute, known as an anti-SLAPP law. The law is intended to deter ‘ill-intentioned lawsuits — particularly those meant to discourage public participation or chill the free speech of others,’ according to the filing by Trump’s new lawyer, Alina Habba,” Bloomberg reports.
Carroll has no evidence of her claim, and can’t name in which year it allegedly happened. Trump is one of several men she claims have sexually assaulted her, but has no evidence any of the alleged attacks happened.
She claims she will not pursue rape charges because of the migrant situation on the southern U.S. border, which makes no sense.
Interviews with Carroll have been marked by bizarre behavior, an exchange with CNN’s Anderson Cooper in which she appears to claim Trump never raped her and the alleged incident was more like “a fight.”
“I was not thrown on the ground and ravaged. The word rape carries so many sexual connotations. This was not sexual. It just hurt,” Carroll told Cooper.
Cooper went to commercial after she continued, “I think most people think of rape as being sexy. Think of the fantasies.”
