What’s Happening:
Just because he’s no longer in office doesn’t mean Mike Pence is sitting on the sidelines. Throughout this year, we’ve heard from the former VP quite frequently. He has joined major conservative groups and formed his own PAC. It’s clear this Republican leader continues to provide insight and direction in areas where we need it most.
And he’s decided to weigh in on a major issue being brought to the Supreme Court this week. Pence gave a speech, directing his message to the highest court in the land. In short, he is urging the court to reverse a historic wrong—to save millions of American lives.
From The Hill:
Former Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday will lay out the case for reversing the precedent set by Roe v. Wade on the eve of Supreme Court arguments over a Mississippi law that bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy…
“We are asking the Court, in no uncertain terms, to make history,” Pence will say, according to prepared remarks. “We are asking the Supreme Court of the United States to overturn Roe v. Wade and restore the sanctity of human life to the center of American law.”
Mike Pence urged the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, just a day before they hear arguments over a pro-life law from Mississippi. Pence called the 1973 decision “misguided” and said it “unfairly harmed millions” of unborn children.
This week, the Supreme Court will be taking up a case over a Mississippi law that bans abortions after 15 weeks. The Republican leadership from the state has previously claimed they passed this law deliberately to challenge Roe v. Wade. Now, with the Supreme Court enjoying a 6-3 conservative majority (thanks to Donald Trump), there is a good chance Roe will become a thing of the past.
Pence, in his remarks, pointed to other countries that have seemingly have more sensible laws. Countries like France ban abortion after 14 weeks with only some exceptions. Yet in the United States of America, Democrats fight tooth and nail to protect a practice hated by many. All because a possibly outdated court ruling has yet to be overturned.
The former vice president argued that elected officials at the state level can better decide this issue. They can pass laws that actually reflect the values of concerns of the people, more so than “unelected judges.” Pence is no doubt suggesting that should Roe be overturned, some states will ban the practice outright, while others might allow it.
Many Americans are watching how the court will rule. It is well-known that justices like Clarence Thomas do not believe the Constitution allows for this practice. Some of Trump’s appointed justices appear to hold the same view. The ruling might come down to someone like Brett Kavanaugh, who some view as a swing vote on this issue.
Key Takeaways:
Mike Pence gave a speech urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.
He argued that elected state officials can better address the practice of abortion.
This comes as the court is about to take a case regarding a Mississippi pro-life law.

Ineptocracy
A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
