Sen. Marco Rubio Proposes Removing NYC Funding Over Noncitizen Voting
Many city residents around the country have expressed their disapproval of the new city law. Rubio said he would work on his federal proposal to remove funding from cities that allow noncitizen voting
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) sent a tweet last weekend that said, “I love NYC, but a bunch of psychos run its government.” Rubio also announced that he intends to introduce a bill in the Senate that would remove federal funds from American municipalities and local governments that allow people who are not U.S. citizens to vote in their elections.
The new proposal comes in response to the Democratic leadership of New York City, which finalized a measure last week that will grant the right to vote to over 800,000 city residents who are not American citizens.
The new class of voters includes permanent residents holding green cards, allowing them to live and work. The new law can only provide noncitizens the power to vote in local city elections. New York City is now the largest local government in the U.S. to allow noncitizens to vote in city elections.
Many city residents and Republicans around the country have expressed their disapproval of the new city law. Rubio spoke the loudest as he said he would work on his federal proposal to remove funding from cities all over the country that allow noncitizen voting.
In a video posted to Twitter, Rubio said that allowing someone who is not a citizen to vote in any American election is “crazy talk” and takes a “special kind of psycho.” He then said he would present his proposed bill and “pursue it as an amendment every chance I get.”
In New York, Republican lawmakers in the state and NYC city government are promising to take court action against the new city voting rules. New York State GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy said that the rules are bad policy, dangerous, unconstitutional, and un-American.
NYC Republican Councilman Joseph Borelli specifically claimed that the rules violate the New York State constitution. He added that the 5.6 million citizen voters in the city “ought to have a say.”

Ineptocracy
A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
